NBWE hosted their 2nd expo of the year at the Harbord Diggers. Floral Conceptions opted for a uniqe set up with a spectacular magnolia stick arrangement which conisisted of hanging vases with t-light candles and flower heads. To enhance the overall look the branches were decorated with groupings of hanging pepercorn, lisianthus and dendrobium orchid heads. Unfortunately our photo's do not do this show stopping arrangement justice.

We sampled a bride and bridemaid bouquet in yellow tones which included a combination of Julia field roses, ivory roses, green privet berry and cream lissianthus. The bridal bouquet included yellow phalenposis orchids for a special touch.
The table was finshed with t-lights and a lucious arrangement of succulents, white dendrobium orchids and peppercorn on a bed of moss which would look fantastic on rectangular tables.

Mona Vale Wedding Expo

The Northern Beaches Wedding Expo (nbwe) held at Mona Vale Golf Course on Thursday the 3rd of Febraury was Floral Conceptions very first wedding Expo. We had fabulous response and met some fantastic providers inculding Very Inviting who do fabulous invitations, event styling and favors. www.veryinviting.com.au

We styled our exhibit with a sample of both a bridal and bridemaids bouquet as well as a feature husk arrangement which could be used as beautiful table arrangements. Flowers included light and hot pink David Austin Roses, sedum, lotus pods, lissianthus and tuberose. Bouquets were finished with a natural jute.

Choosing Your Bridal Flowers
Your choice of flowers for your bridal party will be determined by your theme, style and personality.
To help determine which flowers to use consider the following:

  • Colours you do & do not like
  • Would you prefer pastel colours, bright or monochromatic?
  • Are there any flowers your particularly dislike or love?
  • Does any of the bridal party have allergies to particular flowers or pollen?

Browse through magazines and online for styles for inspiration and flowers which appeal to you. Save these images so that you can compare styles and show your florist.

How to determine the right wedding bouquet for you
A bridal bouquet is there to enhance and compliment a bride’s body, dress and style. There are many different bouquet styles which suite different body shapes and dress designs; which ultimately compliment your body.
For example if you have a detailed dress you will probably want to have a simple bouquet, either monochromatic or using only one type of flower. If your dress has a full skirt a posy shaped bouquet generally enhances the shape rather than a trailing bouquet.
When deciding on your bouquet make sure to seek advice from your florist or dress maker as to which bouquet shapes will compliment you.

Below is a brief guideline as to what bridal bouquet styles suite which body shapes.

Posy Style Birdal Bouquet
Posy Style Bouquet
A round bouquet which is compact and structured, these lean towards the classic style bouquet but can have a modern twist. Suite dresses with a fuller skirt, and will compliment all body shapes.
Informal Wedding Bouquet
Loose Informal Posy
The informal posy has a relaxed ‘garden’ effect. The flowers look as if they could have been hand picked. They look fantastic in an outdoor setting with a relaxed theme. This shape will compliment both short and tall fuller women.
Arm sheaf Bouquet
A bridal bouquet which is designed to be carried and supported in the neck of the arm, this style of bouquet generally suites taller, slender women. Long slim figure hugging dresses work well with the sheaf bouquet.
Traditional Teardrop Bouquet
Teardrop Shape Bouquet
A fully wired structured bouquet which is in the shape of a ‘tear drop’. The teardrop bouquet has a very formal effect and suites a more traditional dress with a skirt and train. The bouquet will enhance your hips due to the roundness at the top of the bouquet.
Trailing Bouquet for slender figure women

Trailing Bouquet
A soft trailing bouquet will elongate your body. A trailing bridal bouquet is perfect for short petite women wearing a slender dress as it will provide the appearance of height. This style of bouquet also compliments a woman’s height making it a perfect choice for taller women.

Deciding Which Colour Flowers To Use
Have a sample of your dress colour and bridesmaids dresses handy so when determining colours you can be sure your colours do not clash. It is a good idea to create a colour chart for yourself, include your invite colours, dress, venue and setting tones, this way you always have something to refer back to when making these important decisions.

Once you have decided on your bridal bouquet the choice of flowers for your bridesmaids, buttonholes and corsages for your groom, groomsmen and family will fall into place as they will compliment you and your bridal bouquet.

Ceremony Flowers
Analyse your ceremony setting, are you getting in married in a church, in a garden, by the sea or on the beach.  What sort of décor can enhance the appearance and theme of your wedding? Décor to consider includes:

  • Pew Ends
  • Large Arrangements
  • Flowers to create an aisle
  • Confetti
  • Flowers for the registry table
  • Arbor

The space of the area will also help determine the arrangements. If getting married in a dark church bright arrangements will light the area up. Getting married under a decorated arbor in a garden on beach will help to emphasize the ceremony area.

Choosing Your Reception Flowers
Your venues location, style and décor, as well as your wedding theme, will be the basis of your receptions flowers.
When choosing your table arrangements consider the following:

  • Shape of the tables
  • Space on the tables, how many guests will be seated per table
  • Height of the room
  • Colour and style of furniture
  • Would you like to have candles
  • Area of room, would you like additional décor in corners, on the bar, in the bathrooms

Search online and in magazines for inspiration and ideas. Again consider creating a colour chart for your reception. If your ceremony and reception are in different locations you are able to use different flowers and a different style.
Keep in mind that your guests need to be able to see each other in order to communicate.

Heather & Matt had a beautiful ceremony in Turramurra. Pew ends were decorated with beautiful posies of field roses and flowing ivory satin ribbon. Heather's bouquet consisted of David Austin Roses, White Peonie Roses and purple toned roses. The bridal party had complimenting flowers and Matt wore a touch of Heather picked from a relatives garden. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Heather and Matt's flowers come together. "just wanted to say a massive thank you for everything you did to make our special day even more extra special. All of your flowers were absolutely perfect - the cake, the bouquets, button holes, pew ends!! It was all exactly as we had imagined and hoped for! You girls are absolute gems!"

Lana & Damien were married in the beautiful gardens of Eryldene House. The outdoor setting was enhanced with pew ends of jars of white flowers and two Oblisque stands decorated with Jasmin and flowers. Lana's bouquet consisted of Sweet Pea, Dahlia, Hydrangea, Peonie Roses and Mulberries. The bouquet was finished in a natural jute binding. Damien and Lana's reception took place at the stunning Boat House in Palm Beach. Floral Conceptions supplied simple bud vases of white flowers and transferred the pew ends flowers to decorate the entrance. Julie & Greg had a beautiful wedding at Pilu in Freshwater. Julie's bouquet consisted of a mix of seasonal Runuculas and Sweet Pea. Tables were decorated with small vases of seasonal flowers for a hand picked delicate look and finished with t-light candles. "Thank you, thank you for doing such a terrific job with the flowers at our wedding. I absolutely loved the bouquets. The table arrangements were simple and elegant and the colours really suited the venue. Thank you also for incorporating Greg's mum's orchids into the boy's button holes and of course for the lovely job you did with tying them up to be put in my hair. The little green flowers were such a brilliant touch and softened the orchids - a big thank you for this suggestion! "

Lauren & Jonathan had beautiful church ceremony followed by a beach side reception held at Dunes at Palm Beach. With the decor at Dunes provided by decor company Romeo's Chair Lauren and Jonathan opted for a pink Balinese theme of Orchids and Oriental Lilies. In order to compliment this theme and the beautiful rose detailing on Lauren's dress we provided a beautiful bouquet consisting of Roses, Cymbidium Orchids and Champagne Dendrobium Orchids.
